Govt to review Medisave to cover more medical conditions

SINGAPORE - The Health Ministry is looking to liberalise Medisave so that it can be used for more medication conditions.

It seeks to make its 3M model - Medisave, MediShield and Medifund - more effective and relevant to the needs of Singaporeans.

This was revealed by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Friday at the Our Singapore Conversation on Healthcare.

Mr Gan said that more details will be shared at the Committee of Supply debate, reported Channel NewsAsia.

The Our Singapore Conversation on Healthcare, which was attended by health-care professionals, is part of the ongoing Singapore Conversation.

Some of the concerns raised at the event included affordable, quality health care, providing a better understanding of the various health-care schemes and better support for the elderly.

An issue that was discussed was how to improve the care delivered to the elderly.

Those who took part in the session suggested beefing up caregiver training and making the living environment more elderly-friendly.

Other suggestions included having one point of contact for patients and caregivers for their health-care needs and also, more flexibility for patients when it comes to getting subsidies.
