High-profile finance expert dies of a heart attack after a seminar

SINGAPORE - High-profile financial management expert Dennis Ng died of a heart attack after a three-hour finance seminar at Park Mall on Wednesday.

He was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and a defibrillator was also used. Mr Ng was later pronounced dead at the Singapore General Hospital, where he was taken.

The co-founder of HousingLoanSG.com and mortgage consultancy firm Leverage Holdings is well-known for his media work and best-selling books, The Straits Times reported.

His entrepreneurial start-up MasterYourFinance.com, a financial education portal, won the inaugural SME1 Asia Awards Top 5 Award in 2011.

He is also the author of finance help books such as Mastering Your Personal Finance and What Your School Never Taught You About Money.

Mr Ng was a popular speaker and his opinion on financial matters highly sought after by various media platforms such as mypaper, Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao and radio station 95.8 FM.

According to his website, Mr Ng was trained as an accountant and went on to become the deputy manager of international banking at Keppel TatLee till 2000, when he moved to an adviser position at insurer Great Eastern Life.

Mr Vinod Nair, chief executive of website Smartloans.sg expressed shock at the news and described Mr Ng as a pioneer in the mortgage broking industry where unbiased advice is offered to property buyers.

Mr Ng leaves behind his wife Patricia and two sons.
