'Hospital of the Future' Farrer Park Hospital opens in Singapore

Singapore's newest private healthcare service provider Farrer Park Hospital has opened its doors on Wednesday (March 16) to serve patients in Singapore and from abroad.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong officiated the opening ceremony and welcomed the latest addition which will provide patients with more choices of medical care.

The 220-bedded medical facility is part of a fully integrated hospital-hotel complex named Connexion that is built directly above the Farrer Park MRT station.

Within the $800 million complex, Farrer Park Hospital is directly connected to the Farrer Park Medical Centre which has 10 floors of suites for medical specialists.

Over 300 accredited specialists offer a wide range of services such as cardiology, oncology, orthopedic surgery, gastroenterology, and ophthalmology. Meanwhile, a 24-hour emergency service provides immediate attention for acute illnesses.

Recovering patients can also take a stroll outdoors in The Farm @ Farrer - one of the 15 gardens located within the building - and enjoy meals prepared by hotel chefs using fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in the garden.

In addition, the hospital has created a conducive learning environment for medical professionals. Each of the hospital's 18 operating rooms is linked to function rooms in the hotel as well as to a lecture hall, teaching clinics and tutorial rooms in the hospital's education centre.

Farrer Park Hospital is also the first private hospital in Singapore to become a teaching site for medical undergraduates from Nanyang Technological University's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Farrer Park Hospital CEO Dr. Timothy Low said: "Our hospital is designed and built to be a hospital of the future. Properly utilised, the state-of-the-art equipment and technology can increase efficiency, reduce cost and, most importantly, improve patient outcomes."
