Hospital probed in abandoned patient death

BANDARLAMPUNG - Police have questioned two high-level administrators at Dadi Tjokrodipo General Hospital in Bandarlampung in the case of a mentally ill patient who was discharged and abandoned on a streetside where he was later found dead.

"We questioned them. We crosschecked their testimonies with those from other witnesses," Bandarlampung Police detectives chief Comr. Dery Agung Wijaya said on Monday.

So far, police have arrested and charged five suspects for abandoning Suparman, 67, on Thursday in the city suburb.

The suspects include a nurse, two cleaning service workers, a parking attendant and an ambulance driver.

"The suspects admitted that the abandoning of the patient was not the first. It's happened several times, but this is the first time someone has died. The suspects refused to mention who ordered them to abandon the patient," Dery said.
