Young patients in a children's hospital in Australia were delighted by a surprise visit from actor Johnny Depp on July 7.

Dressed up as Captain Jack Sparrow from the popular movie series Pirates of the Caribbean, the 52-year-old actor visited Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane with fellow actor Stephen Graham, who plays Scrum in the series.

In a video circulating on social media, Depp and Graham were seen greeting and speaking with many of the hospital's young patients. The video was produced by the hospital's Juiced TV channel.

One of the children who met the actors was 13-year-old cancer patient Ula Pryce-Davies. In the video, she exclaimed "Oh my gosh!" upon seeing them and received a hug from Depp.

She told 9News in an interview: "He was just very lovely, and open, and just so awesome and amazing. I think that Captain Jack Sparrow has a lot of traits of Johnny Depp in him."

According to an ABC News Australia report, Depp also met Max Bennett, 7, who suffers from a rare neurological disorder called transverse myelitis.

Bennett's mother said that the actor was "going from room to room seeing all the kids who couldn't get out of bed. He was taking his time to make sure he spoke to each and every one of them."

Throughout the three-hour-long visit, Depp remained in character while interacting with the sick children, who were delighted by his antics. He also posed for selfies with them.

Before they left, Depp said: "Thank you so much for having me, thank you for asking me questions, and threatening me, and trying to make me sing."

The actors had taken time out from filming the fifth instalment of the movie series to visit the children's hospital.
