SINGAPORE - Khoo Teck Puat Hospital has launched a book describing what it has done to create a "healing environment" for its patients.
Titled "A Healing Space: Creating Biodiversity at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH)", the 76-page book features, among other things, the terraced roof gardens and green spaces around the hospital which are aimed at providing a calm and soothing environment to aid patients' healing.
The hospital in Yishun has won numerous local and international accolades for its environmentally-friendly architechtural design.
Mr Lee Chiu-San, 67, a retiree and avid nature lover, came up with the idea for the book.
The book launch held on Tuesday at the hospital was attended by guest-of-honour Professor Tommy Koh, Singapore's ambassador-at-large.
"This project has become a model for other possible projects. For the upcoming Yishun Community Hospital and Woodlands Medical Centre, they are buildings which will have their fair share of green features as well," said Professor Koh.
Mr Liak Teng Lit, chief executive of Alexandra Health, of which Khoo Teck Puat is a member said: "We set out to build a hospital with gardens to engage the senses of sight, sound, scent and touch, so as to promote a healing environment for patients."
Copies of the book, priced at $28 each, are on sale at the hospital's pharmacy. All proceeds will go to the Green Fund which is used to promote environmental sustainability.
