K-pop actress' fall from grace after propofol abuse scandal

"Drug addict". "Shocking". "Very sad".

Such is the reaction to Park Si Yeon's conviction for abusing propofol by the Seoul Central District Court on Monday.

The 34-year-old, who broke into the Korean showbiz industry in 2000 after being picked as a semi-finalist in the Miss Korea beauty pageant, made a name for herself as a respectable actress in popular Korean dramas such as The Innocent Man (2012).

Park famously dated singeractor Eric Mun from K-pop boy band Shinhwa in 2004 but split up in 2007.

She married an office worker in 2011 and gave birth to their first child, a daughter, just two months ago.

But her image has been tarnished overnight after the scandal broke.

The judge stated that he ruled against Park and the rest as they are stars and have great influence on the public, and should all the more be law-abiding and exemplary citizens.

He said they were a great disappointment to the public and he decided to jail them because they kept denying the claims. Park's fans are disappointed, too.

Netizen Lizzie_wwjd wrote "My impression of her just plummeted", while atlkpopfan said: "I'm really sad for her though, she was (and still is) one of my favourite Korean actresses."

Online user akapurplay said: "I am just so shocked. She is simply a drug addict. If she really has chronic pain, she should get surgery and medication to fix it, and not be so dependent on propofol."
