A woman has become a weight loss inspiration to legions of cosplay fans after - tired of being laughed at for not being able to fit into cosplay costumes - she lost an incredible 20kg.

Many of us have a goal when we want to lose weight, whether it be to fit into a wedding dress or just to live a healthier lifestyle.

But for one woman, her motivation to lose a whopping 20kg was her love of cosplay - specifically, her dream to fit into sexy cosplay outfits and look great playing out her favourite characters.

About 10 years ago, Rolan Ajo of Taiwan weighed over 70kg, Rocket News reported. She loved manga and wanted to cosplay. However, upon trying out a cosplay outfit for the first time, she was disappointed with her reflection in the mirror and felt she looked ugly.

"What I saw was the fat version of my favourite anime character. My impression of the character instantly crumbled.

"I was laughed at and looked down on because I was so fat and it broke my heart," she told reporters.

She decided to go on a diet to be able to better portray her much loved anime characters better.

However, her weight loss regime hit a snag when she discovered that she would lose weight, only to quickly gain the pounds back again.

“I knew I had to not eat so much in order to lose weigh, but I quickly rebounded. If I relaxed and tried to have fun losing weight, I gained weight,” she said.

However, she persevered and turned to her love for cosplay for support.

Desire to wear skimpy outfits fuels efforts

Visualising herself being able to wear her dream cosplay outfits gave her the motivation to stick to her diet.

According to Taiwan media outlets, Ajo's diet consisted of avoiding carbohydrates, fat and sugar.

She also drank 3 litres of water every day and exercised religiously. Her goal was to reportedly keep her D-cup breasts but slim down her stomach and rest of her body so she could wear skimpy outfits.

Throughout all this, she imagined herself being able to wear revealing costumes and looking great in them.

Netizens were also supportive of her quest, and left her notes of encouragement and praise.

Ajo is today one of Taiwan's most popular cosplayers and has even been called "Taiwan's cutest cosplayer" by some.

Her fans call her a source of inspiration to others, who like her, want to lose weight for the sake of cosplaying. "Thank you for give me inspiration. I had 70 Kg like you and now I have 61 and I'll fight because I want to be a good cosplayer," one fan wrote on her Twitter feed.

Love for a comic motvates woman to lose a stunning 33kg

In a similar - and equally amazing - anime-inspired weight loss story, a young woman from Japan loss a stunning 33kg to become a beauty queen after her love for a manga led her to lose weight.

Mina Itabashi, who currently weighs 44kg, made headlines when she appeared on national television and told the audience that she once used to weigh about 76kg.

The 19-year-old told the shocked audience that her   weight loss was brought about by her love for a manga comic - Tenisu no Ojisama, which translates to Prince of Tennis for its english name.

The manga and anime revolve around a cast of young men playing tennis. Mina loved the comic so much that she took to playing the sport and practising her tennis swing every day.

She performed 300 practice swings with each hand every day, and soon she was shedding the pounds and looking better each day.

At her much ligher weight of 44kg, she was crowned Miss Nihon University (College of Law Division) winner for 2012.

She was born on October 20, 1993 in Tokyo and is 1.62m tall.
