Malaysia haze clears even as Sumatra hot spots stay

KUALA LUMPUR - The haze in Selangor over the past week has cleared up significantly, with no more areas recording unhealthy air quality.

According to the Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index (API), there were no areas with a reading of more than 100 as of 5pm yesterday.

Port Klang, which was consistently recorded with the highest API in the past four days, with numbers close to 150, now has an API of 79.

Other areas in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur also registered readings of between 60 and 70.

In Singapore, the Pollutants Standards Index fell from 51 points on Sunday to 39 yesterday.

However, satellite images from the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration still showed 163 hot spots in Sumatra as of yesterday morning.
