SEGAMAT - The Government will be taking stern action against any doctor found selling medical certificates, including revoking their licence to practice, said Health Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.
According to Dr Subramaniam, the actions of such doctors had brought shame to the profession.
"Doctors found to be involved in such an unethical practice will be referred to the Malaysian Medical Council.
"They could be also be fined," he said, emphasising that it is a serious offence to sell medical certificates.
Subramaniam said this when met after the ground-breaking ceremony of SJK(C) Hwa Nam at Batu Anam here yesterday.
He also urged those with information on such doctors to report them to the relevant authorities.
In an unrelated matter, Subramaniam, who is also the MIC deputy president, said the Barisan Nasional-led Government has always made the condition of vernacular schools a priority.
He pointed out that under the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the government had allocated more than RM100mil (S$38 million) to such schools throughout the country since 2009.
Subramaniam, who is also the Segamat MP, said another RM50mil had been allocated this year to upgrade such schools.
