Man with 60kg testicles left with one-inch manhood after surgery

UNITED STATES - He went under the knife to remove his deformed 60kg scrotum, hoping that his life would improve thereafter.

What he did not expect was the operation leaving him with a one-inch (2.54cm) penis, the Daily Mail reported.

Initially, Mr Wesley Warren Jr, 48, had been so desperate to get rid of the deformed body part that he considered selling it on eBay to fund the operation.

Mr Warren suffers from scrotal lymphoedema, a condition that causes the scrotum to swell with watery fluid.

The condition - which is more common in South-east Asia and Africa, where it is caused by parasites - made his scrotum swell to about 60kg within two years. Sufferers find urination difficult and a normal sex life impossible.

A team of surgeons offered to carry out the 13-hour operation for free, but the result was far from perfect.

"I know the majority of people are probably expecting me to express extreme happiness and glee that my life has been transformed since the sac has been removed - but it's not as simple as that," he told The Sun.

Referring to his small penis, he said: "What came out of surgery is a nub an inch long and it does not get any larger."

The huge scrotum Mr Warren carried between his legs earned him a place on the Howard Stern Show and Comedy Central and made him a local celebrity in his community.

Before the operation, he said the growth ruled his life, adding: "I could only walk in baby steps - I had to stop every 30 seconds.

"It was just horrible. I couldn't get in and out of a vehicle and even then I fell down on to the pavement and it took four...men to lift me up."

When Mr Warren spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal in October 2011, he spoke of the pain and humiliation of carrying the deformed genitals, adding that he had depression and other health complications as a result.

His penis was so embedded in the abnormal growth that he was forced to urinate on himself.

He also told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he only wanted to urinate like a normal man and have a romantic relationship with a woman.

"I don't like being a freak, who would?" he said.

His operation has been documented in a programme about extreme body growths, Bodyshock Special.

"There are a lot of shows about makeovers, but this is a real makeover,' Dr Joel Gelman, who heads the Center for Reconstructive Urology at the University of California, Irvine, said of the procedure.

"He's basically a new man," added Dr Gelman.

On April 8, Dr Gelman and three other surgeons removed the grossly enlarged protective sac of skin and muscles that contained Mr Warren's testicles and penis, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported.

As the growth swelling was caused by fluid building up in his scrotum, doctors had to remove the excess tissue and then completely rebuild his scrotum. This is probably how he ended up with a tiny penis.

Said Mr Warren: "I'm grateful to have been pulled out of the fire, I was getting burned, but now I'm dealing with the first-degree burns. I'm still 'disfigured' (because of the tiny penis)."
