MOH investigations into eye-infection cases complete

SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Health (MOH) has completed investigations into the outbreak of keratoconjunctivitis involving the participants of an international rugby tournament held at Turf City between April 21 and22.

In a statement issued yesterday, an MOH spokesman said the infection can occur when mud enters the eye during sporting activities on muddy fields.

To reduce the risk of microsporidia eye infection during sporting activities on grass pitches in Singapore, the spokesman advised members of the public to avoid playing on very muddy or waterlogged pitches for sports involving contact with soil or mud.
