Mum of 2 dies after butt implant surgery goes wrong

UNITED STATES - A series of butt injections given by a "doctor" has led to the death of a woman.

Florida officials have now opened a manslaughter investigation.

Ms Suyima Torres, 28, died on April 11 after reportedly paying US$2,300 (S$2,900) for the procedure at Cuerpos Health and Aesthetics in the US city of Miami, Fox News Latino reported.

After leaving the medical facility, the mother of two stumbled into a mall and seemed to be dazed and trembling in spite of the hot weather.

"I was looking at her and she fell down, so I went outside, I picked her up, I asked her where's her car," a witness recounted. Ms Torres was then rushed to the hospital, but died soon after.

Court documents say that an oily yellow substance was injected into her buttocks by a man claiming to be a doctor from Venezuela, the Mirror reported.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death, but officers are treating it as manslaughter.

The owner of Cuerpos Aesthetics Ruth Planas refused to comment on the alleged Venezuelan doctor, and there is speculation that the man may have fled the US.

No charges have been filed against Cuerpos, but police have seized its patient records, medication and computers.

Ms Torres' case is the latest in a series of deaths related to botched butt procedures.

Her death came only days after Ms Dailen Garcia, 20, was warded after a similar procedure at the same facility.

Ms Garcia was taken to the intensive care unit for vision problems and bleeding lungs.

In 2011, a Miami woman died after having a mixture of mineral oil, cement and flat-tyre sealant injected into her buttocks.
