My point: Protect interests of policyholders

I support senior health correspondent Salma Khalik's call for the Government to ensure insurers treat policyholders fairly ("Little peace of mind with MediShield integrated plans"; Tuesday).

On and off, we will receive letters from our insurers informing us of changes to our existing policies. Often, the changes involve raising premiums, reducing payouts or removing certain coverage.

Seldom will we receive a notice of additional coverage or reduction in premiums for loyal customers. There is little or no room for redress.

Such practices should be ended and guidelines put in place to protect the interests of policyholders.
