SINGAPORE - Healthcare workers who handle syringes every day can injure themselves, and this can be life-threatening if the patients have blood-borne diseases such as Aids.
Venture capital firm Red Dot Ventures has invested $589,000 in local medical device maker Intuitive Creations, which is developing the next generation of safety syringes.
Founded in 2010, the start-up has developed a low-cost retractable and detachable syringe.
The Safety Syringe allows a user to retract the needle into the syringe before or after the needle is withdrawn from the patients, thus preventing any accidental injuries.
Co-founder Yap Chew Loong said the syringe, which will have far fewer parts than those available now, is expected to reach the global market in 2015.
