New wellness centre launched in Hougang Street 51

A new integrated wellness centre has opened along Hougang Street 51 - a first for the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

Roughly the size of two five-room HDB flats, It will give residents access to a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, basic counselling services, video games and even a mobile library kiosk.

Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC grassroots advisor Mr Gan Thiam Poh who opened the centre on Saturday, expressed hope that the space will cater to the residents' well-being and be a meeting point for residents of all ages. "There should be something for everyone. This marks a step towards building a more engaged community," he said.

The centre was formerly a rehabilitation venue for Ren Ci hospital, and has been refurbished at the cost of $70,000, paid for by donors. Most of the services are also free.

The Sian Chay Medical Institution gives free consultation to seniors above 65, and under privileged residents, as well as providing affordable medication and treatments.

The counselling services are provided by the not-for-profit group Silver Ribbon.

Mr Gan also revealed plans were in the pipeline to have build another wellness centre in Pasir Ris to serve its residents there.
