Parents want to know why child died

SHAH ALAM - The parents of 3-month-old Tan XX are demanding answers after he died in mysterious circumstances at a daycare centre here last Friday.

Tai XX, 29, the mother of Tan XX, said her son was in good health when she dropped him off at the centre on Friday morning.

"I was at work when I received a call from the centre's owner at 2.15pm, asking me to come over as my son had stopped breathing.

"I called my neighbour to check on my son before rushing from my workplace in Glenmarie. When my neighbour arrived there, my son was unconscious," she said at her home in Setia Alam here yesterday.

Her neighbour, M. Shanthi, 39, claimed that she found Tan XX in his cot and that a worker had told her to take the baby to a clinic.

Tai, who arrived soon after, took her son to a nearby clinic where cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed. Tan XX was then rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

She lodged a police report here on the same day. The family is considering legal action against the daycare centre pending the outcome of the post-mortem.

State Welfare Department (JKM) director Nik Omar Nik Abd Rahman said the department would investigate the matter.

He advised parents to check the JKM website for registered daycare centres.
