Police remind public to use sparklers safely

SINGAPORE - The police would like to remind the public to exercise caution while playing with sparklers during the upcoming Mid-Autumn festival.

In a statement to the media, the police warned that the use of sparklers should be done in a responsible manner and according to the prescribed guidelines by the manufacturer.

If not handled properly, it could create potential fire hazards and noise pollution. The explosions from the fire crackers could also cause bodily harm or property damage.

These instances could cause undue alarm to the public.

Anyone caught setting off improvised explosive devices may be prosecuted for negligent conduct for the use of fire, combustible matter or explosive substance.

If convicted, the offender will be liable for an imprisonment term of up to one year or be fined up to $5,000, or both.
