HA NOI - Medical errors are suspected to be the cause for the death of Nguyen Thi Thu Phong, 35, at the Dong Da District-based Maria Polyclinic.
According to Ly Ngoc Kinh, former director of the Health Ministry's Treatment Management Department, the procedure that killed the patient is known as "cervicitis-in-cervica-ectropion treatment".
It involved transfusing fluid or injecting Dexamethasone 4 mg/1ml into her body. However, it is believed to have been unnecessary.
Dexamethasone sodium phosphate (Dexamethasone 4mg/1ml solution for injection ampoules) is used in situations where corticosteroid treatment is necessary, such as for inflammations and allergic disorders.
Kinh said the patient should have been treated with antibiotics instead.
The clinic has been temporarily suspended after the death of the woman on July 14.
