More than 160 people, including eight girls, turned up at Republic Polytechnic (RP) on July 6 to get their pates shaved and shiny for the 10th edition of Hair for Hope, a fundraising event to create awareness for children suffering from cancer.
This is the third year that RP is hosting the event which was organised by RP and the Children's Cancer Foundation. The polytechnic has been a satellite centre for Hair for Hope since 2009.
Volunteers go bald to understand what a child is put through. At the same time, it also hopes to let children sufferers understand that they are not alone in their fight against cancer.
The turnout for the event almost doubled that of last year's where 96 people had their heads shaved.
To date, about $8,183 was raised from the event.
To celebrate a decade of Hair for Hope, the annual IGNITE! Music Festival was also held onsite to promote passion and compassion among Singapore's youth.
