'Report sale of illegal health items'

KUALA LUMPUR - The public should play the role of whistleblowers in curbing the sale of illegal health products in the country.

Director-general of health Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said the public should report to the authorities when they came across illegal health products.

"The public has to assist us by informing the authorities about the sale of such products whenever they come across a dealer so that we can nab these culprits," he said yesterday.

Ongoing investigations to confiscate three banned herbal products -- True Prolife Vegegrow, Kapsul Gaut and Flutulang -- throughout the country are under way following reports of a death and two people becoming ill in Singapore.

Dr Hasan also urged the public to check the registration numbers on the packaging of health products.

"Most legal health products have coded hologram stickers which can be traced by devices at certain private pharmacies to determine their legality."
