SINGAPORE - Smaller and faster ambulances are now plying the roads as the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) refreshes its ambulance fleet.
There are currently eight lighter and more nimble Class 3 ambulances in use, out of 46 in the fleet.
They are expected to reduce maintenance time and cost, as there will be less wear and tear, said Lieutenant-Colonel (Dr) Ng Yih Yng, the director of the force's medical department. "They will also be able to weave better through traffic," he added.
The design of the ambulances is ergonomic, with the crew able to reach out to equipment while seated with their seat belts on.
The number of ambulances will be increased to 50 over the next few years, said Lt-Col Ng.
