Technically, the only treatment that comes close to putting a lid on acne is an oral medication called Isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Oratane).
However, it is mainly meant for nodular cystic acne which causes severe scarring and people whose acne does not respond to conventional treatment.
This form of medication has to be monitored closely with blood tests before and during treatment.
There could also be some side effects like dryness of the lips and eyes and, in some cases, muscular pain.
