SINGAPORE - A 15-year-old girl spent a year researching into how mangosteen peel can potentially treat breast cancer. Another 18-year-old boy investigated the uses of ginger in fighting cancer.
These students are just two of the 188 students who received plaques at the awards ceremony held on Friday.
Budding young scientists were rewarded for their in-depth research projects at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) Talent Search and the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair.
Dr Hartmut Michel, a German biochemist who won a Nobel Prize in 1988, was the guest-of-honour at the event. He said: "The knowledge of these students impressed me very considerably. They are all winners."
Three projects were also selected to represent Singapore in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair held in Arizona in May.
