How long you should keep your leftover and unopened Chinese New Year goodies

If you, like anyone who's hosted a Chinese New Year gathering at your house, have leftover CNY goodies, here's a rough guide on how long you can keep them in an airtight container at room temperature after they're opened.

Pineapple tarts: 3 weeks

Kueh bangkit: 1 - 2 weeks

Kueh baulu: 3 weeks to a month

Love letters: 3 weeks to a month

Almond and other nut cookies: 1 month

Pea cookies: 3 weeks to a month

Peanuts and other seeds/nuts: 1 month

Fried fish skin/potato chips/keropopk/arrowroot chips/prawn rolls: 1 - 2 weeks

Bak kwa: 1 week

Mandarin oranges: 1 week

For Chinese New Year goodies that are not opened yet, check the expiry or use by date indicated on the containers. Once opened, they should be consumed within the above durations to ensure freshness.

If you wish to donate your unopened goodies, you can go to any of the seven 'Bank Boxes' operated by The Food Bank Singapore at City Square Mall, Quayside Isle, Giant Hypermarket Vivocity, National University of Singapore (School of Engineering), Giant Hypermarket Grand Stand, Giant Hypermarket Parkway Parade, or Liang Court Shopping Mall. Or you can drop off the goodies at their warehouse at 39 Keppel Road #01-02/04, Tanjong Pagar Distripark.
