Jakarta Traffic Police said the headquarters were preparing for the implementation of an electronic system for traffic ticketing.
Deputy Director of Traffic Police, Adj. Sr. Comr. Bakharudin, said that his office had been verifying vehicle data in Greater Jakarta.
"We are synchronizing the data between that of the one-roof administration office [Samsat] and Regional Revenue Agency," he said as quoted by tribunnews.com. We will use an electronic registration identification system or ERI," he went on.
When the data synchronization is complete, the police will start installing electronic law enforcement (ELE) at several points.
ELE is used to record vehicles that violate traffic rules.
Jakarta will become the pilot site for electronic traffic ticketing that will soon be applied across the nation.
The trial areas in Jakarta will be Jl. HR Rasuna Said, Jl. Mampang Prapatan and the busway lanes on Jl. MT Haryono, all in South Jakarta.
