Jamie's Italian VivoCity gets new head chef

SINGAPORE - Jamie's Italian VivoCity has appointed Chef Alessandro Laconi as head chef of its 300-seat restaurant.

Born in Sedilo, Sardinia, Chef Laconi has been following his mother and late Nonna in the kitchen since he was a little boy. Picking fresh tomatoes and basil from their garden, he would learn how to make his favourite Culurgiones, a dish of ravioli with potato and pecorino cheese. These days encouraged him to follow his heart and enter the professional kitchen at the age of 16, and these two women still continue to be his greatest inspiration until now.

Prior to joining Jamie's Italian, Chef Laconi honed his skills at hotels and restaurants in Italy, Germany and the UK, and ran his own restaurant and catering business for 9 years. He then moved across the world to Singapore in 2012, where he led kitchen teams in established Italian restaurants such as Pasta Brava and Al Borgo.

Chef Laconi brings to the table his expertise on authentic Italian cuisine and that quintessentially Italian spirit, verve and passion for food, family and life itself.

Commenting on his new role, Chef Laconi said: "I'm very honoured to work for such an internationally-renowned brand and to lead an amazing team at Jamie's Italian VivoCity. After a long training period I am now familiar with the Jamie's Italian culture and its vision to offer good food for everyone. I can't wait to meet all the guests and make them smile!"

He will oversee the rolling out of a brand new menu on April 23, 2015, with more of Jamie's twists on homey Italian favourites, such as Italian Nachos, and dishes 'al forno', or 'from the oven'.
