Kodaira 5th in women's 500-meter race; Japan defeats Denmark in curling

Nao Kodaira finished fifth with a combined time of one minute 15.61 seconds in the women's 500-meter speed skating event at the Sochi Winter Olympics on Tuesday.

Lee Sang Hwa of South Korea won her second straight Olympic gold, followed by Olga Fatkulina of Russia and Margot Boer of The Netherlands.

Maki Tsuji was ninth in 1:16.84, while Miyako Sumiyoshi finished 14th in 1:17.26.

Meanwhile, Japan defeated Denmark 8-3 at the women's curling round-robin session. This is the first win for Japan, following a loss to South Korea earlier that day.
