Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo could not hold back tears when he picked up the 2013 Fifa Ballon d'Or award for player of the year from Brazilian football legend Pele (right) and France Football president Francois Moriniere (back, right) during the ceremony in Zurich on Monday.

He was joined by his three-year-old son.

This was the 28-year-old Portuguese forward's first win since 2008, and prevented his great rival Lionel Messi from winning the award for a fifth year in a row.
