Let sports hub be for sports

SINGAPORE - I have lived in Singapore for eight years and am very excited that we will finally have a major sports hub and hopefully, be able to attract major sporting events.
I attended the Singapore Sports Hub preview recently and was impressed by the model of the new site and all the sporting facilities and recreational opportunities the venue will offer.
However, I was shocked and disappointed that a huge amount of prime space (41,000 sq ft) at the entrance will be devoted to a shopping mall with supermarket FairPrice as a key tenant.
I have visited many different sporting venues around the world and Singapore's is surely the only one that will be fronted by a shopping mall and supermarket.
Singapore has hundreds of shopping malls. I hope the authorities will review the need for more shops. Let the sports hub be a sporting venue.
