Lianhe Wanbao goes digital as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations

SINGAPORE - Lianhe Wanbao (WB), one of the two evening Chinese dailies published by Singapore Press Holdings, has gone digital and launched its smartphone and tablet apps along with its new website today.

The new WB smartphone app covers both iPhones and Android smartphones while the new WB tablet app is for both iPad and Android tablets. The smartphone and tablet editions offer WB in both native and PDF formats.

Both iOS apps for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded from iTunes Store, while Android apps for smartphone and tablet are available on Google Play.

All apps can be downloaded for free. Lianhe Wanbao is offering a free trial from 9 Sep to 9 Oct that gives users full access to all content. Users can register a free trial account via Wanbao Online ( or Wanbao apps. Deadline for registration is on Oct 9, 2359hrs.

The PDF format will also be available on Wanbao Online ( or and Wanbao apps. Free registration with full access for smartphones and tablets will start from 9 Sep till 9 Oct. One free trial account will allow the user to access all the WB digital platforms.

The paywall will be rolled out on 10 Oct 2013 and all registered users will be notified and invited to take up the subscription package prior to this announcement.

The launch is part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

With the digitalisation of the evening daily, WB is now available in multiple editions on the following platforms:

1. The daily print (newspaper) edition;
2. The WB online edition
3. A tablet edition
4. A smartphone edition

The following new content will be available on all the digital platforms:

- Videos
- Photo galleries
- Digital-only content (content exclusively for digital platforms)

There will also be new features:

- Users can leave comments
- Social sharing
- Direct contact with newsroom (tip-off)
- Fun games with numbers Subscribers will also have access to the print CATS Classified and Recruit sections in PDF formats.
