Qatar Airways, the national carrier of Qatar, is offering Indonesian dishes as part of its onboard dining experience “Quisine”.
Served for passengers on Jakarta-Doha flights, the Indonesian dishes are available as main courses for breakfast and dinner.
Among the dishes on offer are nasi dengan semur ayam (steamed rice with chicken stew), nasi dengan ayam bumbu Bali (steamed rice with traditional Balinese seasonings), nasi kuning dengan santan gulai ayam (yellow rice with chicken coconut curry), semur daging dengan saus krim mustard (braised beef with creamy mustard sauce), daging cincang dengan saus krim lobak (braised diced beef with creamy horseradish relish sauce), kwetiaw goreng lada hitam (fried flat noodles with black pepper sauce) and bihun goreng saus tiram jahe (fried glass noodles with oyster ginger sauce). The menu will be changed every three months.
The airline takes special requests from passengers as long as they inform the staff in advance.

Decha Mingkwan, Qatar Airways’ culinary development manager, said he collaborated with Indonesian chefs when designing the menu. “The challenge was how to make the taste consistent,” Mingkwan said at the Experience Quisine event in the Purantara In-Flight Catering office at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday. “We tasted, adjusted the taste and created the recipe. We also standardized the recipe. We want every single portion to be consistent.”
He said nasi goreng and mie goreng were the most popular dishes among passengers. "That's why we cannot leave these dishes [out]," Mingkwan said.
The airline’s Quisine has improved the dining experience for economy class passengers flying to and from Indonesia by increasing its portion sizes – 20 percent for appetizers, 25 percent for main courses and 50 percent for desserts.
Passengers will also have more options in the economy class, such as Godiva chocolate, individual bottled water and sparkling wine. The airline also offers olive oil-infused focaccia bread.

Ajay Jacob, Qatar Airways’ country manager for Indonesia, said the airline was focusing on passengers' comfort and experience by improving the serving portions of their in-flight meals. "We want our passengers to have unique experiences on board,” Jacob said.
Qatar Airways also aims to reduce single-use plastics by using silverware instead of plastic cutlery. It has recently seen an 80 percent increase in its use of recyclable and biodegradable products.
Launched in April 2019, Quisine is intended to enhance the onboard dining experience for passengers in economy class. The flights that provide Quisine travel to and from Brussels, Cardiff in Wales, Gothenburg in Sweden and Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.
Qatar Airways serves round-trip routes from Doha to Jakarta and from Doha to Bali three times a day. The airline is scheduled to open new routes this year, including to Osaka, Japan; Santorini, Greece; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Nur-Sultan and Almaty, Kazakhstan; Accra, Ghana; Cebu, the Philippines; Lyon, France; Trabzon, Turkey; Siem Reap, Cambodia; and Luanda, Angola.
