BOURGES, France - A light plane crashed in central France on Tuesday killing the two people on board, rescue services said.

The two-seater RV-8 plane had just taken off from Issoudun aerodrome in the central Indre department when it crashed into thousands of straw bails in a field, according to rescue services.

Pilot Pascal Lefebvre, 58, and Vincent Ah-Mook-Sinh, 42, were killed instantly.

The straw bails were set alight and it took 50 firefighters to tackle the blaze. An inquiry was swiftly launched into the cause of the crash.
