    Daughter of Chinese tycoon snaps up $84 million GCB in Bin Tong Park

    The daughter of nickel-and-steel magnate Xiang Guangda recently purchased an $84 million GCB in Bin Tong Park, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday (April 24).

    Xiang Yangyang, reportedly in her 30s, is a director at Rept Battero Energy, a listed company in Hong Kong.

    Now, the property stands as a two-storey freehold with enough space to hold eight to 10 cars, The Business Times reported.

    It is understood that Yangyang and her mother are both Singapore citizens and are currently based in Singapore, The Business Times reported.

    Sergeant Kiang is one of the creators of the iconic Chatterbox chicken rice that's sold at Hilton Singapore Orchard.

    Sergeant Kiang had already been sick for a couple of months and was struggling with gastric problems and low blood pressure.

    Eventually, together with his father and siblings, he co-founded Jiang Ji Traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice in late 2010.

    However, he feels that he will never be able to replicate his father's chicken rice.

    AI spending worries cast gloom over Alphabet, Microsoft

    Meta's stock sank 15 per cent in extended trade after it forecast higher AI spending next year, while Microsoft was down 2 per cent, Alphabet fell 3 per cent and Nvidia dropped 1.4 per cent in reaction.

    "I think we've gotten more ambitious and optimistic on AI," Zuckerberg responded, pointing to Meta's recent launches of new AI models.

    Creating content with generative AI is energy-intensive, and Zuckerberg cited the cost as a reason for Meta's higher expenses.

    Industry-wide, shareholders are now focused on looking for revenue, including pricing models and whether customers can find use cases that justify the cost of generative AI, Jefferies wrote.

    Tech companies plug into India's smaller cities for talent

    MADURAI/BENGALURU — Indian engineer B. Ramachandran now prefers living in the smaller cities than the major tech hubs of Bengaluru and Chennai.

    IT companies are now expanding into smaller cities, in part to tap on workers like Ramachandran, and to capitalise on cheaper land costs, rents and wages.

    US-based Cognizant and India's Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCLTech, and Wipro, are moving into smaller cities due to cost efficiency, government incentives and availability of talent.

    Tech Mahindra is running an initiative called "Nxt.Towns" to win talent in tier 2 cities, while Wipro is encouraging employees to relocate to its offices in smaller cities through "Project Lavender".

    BEIJING — China's largest auto show opened in Beijing on Thursday with the biggest names showing off their latest electric vehicles (EVs), underlining how the world's largest auto market is already in an all-electric state of mind, and isn't looking back.

    "At the Beijing auto show, there's no doubt there is no interest in gasoline vehicles anymore.

    Some Chinese brands outlined overseas plans, brushing off European and US concerns about industry overcapacity and stressed they had simply become better through innovation.

    It is among seven brands of state-owned automakers that struck partnerships with Huawei to leverage the latter's ADAS technology.

    KUALA LUMPUR - Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is among individuals being investigated in connection with a graft probe involving his sons, the head of Malaysia's Anti-Corruption Commission said on Thursday (April 25).

    The MACC's chief commissioner Azam Baki on Thursday declined to elaborate on the investigations facing Mahathir or his sons.

    In recent months, the MACC has launched several graft cases against prominent political figures, including those seen allied to 98-year-old Mahathir, a long-time foe of current Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

    Anwar has denied targeting political rivals, saying the investigations are part of the government's efforts to tackle high-level corruption.
