Local content a key focus for StarHub

We agree with managing editor Han Fook Kwang that offering localised content is one way a pay-TV service provider can differentiate itself and add value for consumers ("SingTel v StarHub: It gets curiouser and curiouser"; Sunday). That is why StarHub embarked on content localisation over a year ago.

StarHub's latest localised content is Lady First - Singapore, which ended its first season on Monday. It is a made-for-Singapore version of top Taiwanese magazine programme Lady First.

We injected a strong local flavour into the programme by adding three Singapore stylists to the team, joining the Taiwanese host and stylists who are synonymous with the original show.

Each of the 13 episodes featured only Singaporean female artists and was tailored specially to Singapore's women, climate and culture.

In 2011, StarHub produced the world's first Mandarin adaptation of Academy Fantasia, a 10-week singing competition conducted in reality-TV style. This was very much in line with our ongoing efforts to uncover and groom young talent in Singapore.

The winner of the inaugural Academy Fantasia is now preparing for the release of her first recording album, and many of the other finalists have made further headway in their attempts to break into the local entertainment scene.

Sports fans have not been forgotten. They can catch the StarHub-commissioned FC Daily, a show on international football, as well as live coverage of LionsXII matches, the S-League, the Singapore Slingers, the OCBC Cycle Singapore, National School Games and the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore on StarHub TV.

Our local productions have received considerable support from viewers in Singapore, and we thank them for the encouragement.

Forging ahead, localised productions will continue to be a key content focus for StarHub.
