Malaysia AG orders further 1MDB probe after committee findings

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General has directed for investigations to be carried out into several personalities with regards to the findings of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali said he had ordered further investigations based on a Cabinet directive following the PAC's findings.

"I have given directions for further investigations in respect to other personalities who may be involved.

"Investigations are based on the directive given and to date, the investigation papers have not come back to me," he told reporters after a luncheon talk themed "Media and the Law: A National Perspective" here yesterday.

On April 14, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had announced that he would head an investigating team to further study the findings of the PAC report.

The PAC tabled the 106-page report on 1MDB in Parliament on April 7, which, among others, recommended authorities to further investigate former 1MDB chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and those linked to the management of the government-owned strategic investment company.

On another matter, Apandi said he had yet to see the police investigation papers on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Police had so far opened four investigation papers against Dr Mahathir for sedition and criminal defamation.

He had repeatedly called for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to step down.
