19-year-old girl set to be Malaysia's youngest doctor

A 19-year-old Malaysian girl, Chan Hao Shan, is set to become the country's youngest doctor when she graduates next year from Taylor's University, a private university in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

The undergraduate who is taking her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) said that her interest in medicine started after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was eight years old, reports Coconuts KL and The Sun Daily.

She said: "I was curious about the human body and its functions. For example, what really happens in a person's throat when he swallows something."

To sate her growing curiosity, she read extensively on the human body.

The bright girl then completed her Form 1 and 2 studies in two months and took another two months to complete her Form 3 studies and the GCE O-Level examinations.

She completed her entire secondary school education in a year.

Chan also added that she often felt bored by the slow progress in classes, and finished entire textbooks in just a few days.

Well, this certainly makes us wonder what we were doing at her age.
