KOTA KINABALU - Firemen are investigating a blaze which is alleged to have started after a mobile phone, which was being charged, exploded.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department chief Jimmy Lagung said that the department needed to investigate the incident, which destroyed two houses in Kundasang, before it could determined the cause of the fire.

"The forensics team needs to gather evidence first," he said, noting that witnesses said the phone was being charged in one of the houses.

Firemen arrived at the scene near the Desa Cattle farm a few minutes after receiving a distress call at about 2.09pm.

The blaze was brought under control at about 4.07pm.

"Both houses were totally damaged in the fire but no casualties have been reported," Jimmy said.
