GEORGE TOWN - The RM4.5 billion (S$1.71 billion) second Penang Bridge is tentatively scheduled to open on March 1 and not this month.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who announced the date yesterday, said the official opening would be a night event.
He said preliminary figures revealed tourist arrivals in Penang should exceed 6.2 million this year.
"Hotel occupancy increased from 64 per cent in 2012 to 67 per cent in 2013," Lim said after attending the rebranding of Vistana Hotel here.
Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof was reported as saying in December that the bridge would open to the public this month.
He said it would be opened only after it met the requirements set by the Malaysian Highway Authority.
