TUARAN - Three people were injured when a steel structure collapsed on them here, yesterday.

In the 11am incident, two Tour of Borneo workers were installing an arch at the finishing line, near Dewan Seri Sulaman, when they lost their balance causing it to collapse.

Acting district police chief Deputy Superintendent Roslan Ahmad said: "The steel frame fell on them and also hit another worker.

"They were sent to a hospital by paramedics who were at the scene," he said when contacted.

Roslan said the three were reported in stable condition, adding that no participants were injured during the cycling race.

Yesterday marked the first stage of the Tour of Borneo with participants cycling their way from Kota Kinabalu to the finishing line here.

The first day of the race covered a distance of 108.7km.

Cyclists cycled passed Tenghilan and Kota Belud before ending their race here.

They were seen racing up to the finishing line at 1.30pm.

The second stage of the race today will cover 189.2km from Tanjung Aru to Papar.
