SEREMBAN - Eight gunshots were fired at the office of a developer involved in a legal tussle with former residents of Kg Hakka in Mantin early yesterday.
Workers who reported for work at the office located along the main road at 9am were shocked to see the front glass entrance riddled with bullet holes after they opened the rolling shutters.
They called the police and a forensic team was dispatched to the scene.
Mega 9 Sdn Bhd managing director Ng Chee Gong, who was the developer, was also present but remained tight-lipped over the incident.
He said the entrance to the office was equipped with a CCTV and the recording had been handed over to the police.
"We will let the police investigate. We can't say anything more now," he said.
It is understood that the developer was to pay out compensation of between RM10,000 (S$3,800) and RM12,000 to several families, who had agreed to a deal, today and tomorrow.
Kg Hakka Residents' Association head Chong Tze Yaw expressed regret over the incident.
State CID chief ACP Hamdan Majid said the police were still investigating the type of weapon used and the number of attackers involved.
Mega 9 Sdn Bhd has been involved in a legal battle with the villagers over the 12ha land since 2011.
More than half of the 90-odd households have since accepted compensation and moved out while the remaining villagers decided to take the matter to court.
In October, the High Court ruled in favour of the developer, but the residents concerned are appealing the decision.
