SIBU - The nine-month-old baby boy, who was allegedly abused by his babysitter three days ago, is fighting for his life at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the other victim, a 17-month-old boy who suffered broken upper teeth and bruises on his lips, is recovering.

"The nine-month-old boy is still in critical condition and remains unconscious," he said, adding that the nine-month-old boy was on life support.

The boy's parents, he said, had also stopped people from visiting the boy due to his condition.

The victim, the youngest of three children, was admitted to the ICU at 1pm on Jan 7 with bleeding in the inner part of the brain and on both eyes. There were fractures on the left side of his head.

His parents, who are teachers, had been sending him to a babysitter since August last year.

He added that the 39-year old woman babysitter, who was arrested on Tuesday (Jan 8) evening following a report lodged by the parents of the nine-month-old boy, is under remand until Jan 13.

The suspect had been taking care of four children in her home in Jalan Permaijaya that was illegally converted into a childcare centre.

To a question, ACP Stanley said the suspect is being investigated under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.

"Depending on the condition of the boy, we might investigate her under Section 302 of the Penal Code later," he added.
