About 300 devotees took turns to sleep in a coffin, believing they will have good luck after completing the ritual at a temple in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, China Press reported.
The ritual was held recently in conjunction with the birth ceremony of Hei Wu Chang and Bai Wu Chang, the two guards who are said to be responsible for bringing the dead to the afterworld.
During the ceremony, the devotees had to step into the coffin and lie down in it while Hei Wu Chang and Bai Wu Chang recited prayers through mediums.
The devotees believe the ceremony would help them get rid of bad luck and bring them good luck, it reported.
The daily also reported that the temple only encouraged the devotees to undergo the ceremony once in their lifetime.
Pregnant women are not allowed to take part in the ceremony.
