Scores of Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's supporters yesterday thronged security barriers outside a court in Kuala Lumpur, with police officers struggling to hold them back as he arrived for a hearing into his appeal against a sodomy conviction.

The 67-year-old tweeted that if he was forced to go to jail, "I will go fighting a corrupt government".
