Ban on use of video on Malaysia's TV2's Mandarin news lifted

The Mandarin news of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) over TV2 is now allowed to use video footage for its broadcasts, Chinese dailies reported.

The ban against any accompanying visuals was lifted in Friday's 8pm bulletin. However, the banner headlines continued to be in Bahasa Malaysia, instead of the usual Chinese - another condition that came along with the ban.

The dailies had reported the video ban imposed on TV2's Mandarin news on Thursday following a "top management's directive". All through the broadcasts on Thursday and Friday noon, only the newscaster's face was featured on screen.

This directive was believed to have been issued after the channel displayed an image of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak appearing dejected, against a collage of photographs that included one of businessman Jho Low, during its 8pm news on Tuesday.

Yesterday, the banner headings were reverted to Chinese during both bulletins.
