JOHOR BARU - Beauty queens from across the globe proved that they are not just beautiful to look at but a multi-talented bunch as well.
Some 59 participants of the Miss Tourism International 2013 pageant sung, danced, recited poems and performed their traditional dance during a visit to the state.
The event started off with the participants spreading the Christmas cheer to the crowd as they danced to classic Christmas carols at the Berjaya Waterfront Hotel here on Friday night.
The beautiful women from India, Czech Republic, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, among others, also showcased their talents during special performances.
The pageant's president Datuk Danny Ooi said this was its largest participation yet as 60 women worldwide were in the running for the Miss Tourism International 2013 title.
He said all participants had arrived in Malaysia for the final round except for the Guatemala entrant who could not make it in time due to a flight delay.
"This was just a special preview for Johoreans to catch a glimpse of the delegates who are in the running for the coveted title," he said, adding that the finals would be held at Putrajaya Marriot Hotel and Spa on Dec 31.
Ooi said the preview show also allowed delegates to better understand Johor culture, traditions and cuisine.
He also took the opportunity to thank the state Tourism Department for offering the beauty queens the chance to visit the state's many tourist destinations on a day trip.
