KUALA LUMPUR - MCA's Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun has received the backing of component leaders who are confident that she is the best representative for Barisan Nasional in the Kajang by-election.
They have also pledged full support and will help her in the campaigning.
Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in extending his best wishes to Chew said although the coalition entered the polls as an underdog it would strive hard to support its candidate.
"We will support her and will work our level best to ensure the best possible outcome," he said.
Barisan wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil sang praises of Chew whom she described as a leader with excellent service track record.
"She is the best candidate. Chew is a person of integrity and has high discipline.
"She was my deputy at the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and she has the people's interest at heart," she said.
Shahrizat, who is also Umno wanita chief, said the movement would mobilise its machinery to help garner support for Chew.
Chew is expected to face PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Independent candidate Datuk Zaid Ibrahim in the Kajang polls.
A few other individuals have indicated their interest to contest.
MIC president Datuk Seri G.Palanivel said his party would be concentrating in wooing the Indian voters.
"We will be working with other Indian-based Barisan component parties to get the support of the community," he said.
Palanivel said that Kajang sas about 4,000 Indian voters and 1,400 MIC members.
PPP president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas said his party would also lend a hand to help Chew and MCA in the campaign.
