Bodies of two friends found in fishing pond

IPOH - Firemen found the bodies of two friends hugging each other at a fishing pond off the Ipoh-Lumut Expressway.

The bodies of Mohd Yati Yeop Ahmad, 42, and Mohammad Zhairii Shahuddin, 27, were discovered in the pond at about 8.28am yesterday by Batu Gajah fire and rescue personnel.

They are believed to have fallen into the pond while out fishing.

Batu Gajah OCPD Asst Comm Shaharon Anuar Abdul Latif said the family members of both men realised they were missing when they did not return home after watching the Barcelona-Malaysia friendly football match last Saturday.

Their bodies were brought to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun hospital for a post-mortem and one of them was found to have injuries on his head.

However, the case is still being classified as sudden death until the post-mortem results are out, he said.

In a separate case, a businessman was robbed of RM50,000 (S$19,400) by four masked and armed men in Bercham.

The incident occurred around noon when the 38-year-old businessman was on his way to deposit the money in a bank.

He was uninjured in the incident.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong confirmed the incident.
