PETALING JAYA - The Foreign Ministry confirmed that the body found at Mount Damavand, Iran on Oct 27 is that of Ramli Abd Majid, a Malaysian hiker who went missing since Nov 20, 2016.
The Ministry said in a statement Sunday that the Malaysian embassy in Tehran is rendering the necessary assistance to repatriate the remains back to Malaysia.
"The Government of Malaysia would like to thank the Iranian authorities for their efforts in the search and rescue, as well as conveys its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased," it said.
Ramli was in a group of 12 Malaysians climbing Iran's highest peak last November.
The other two, who insisted on ascending the peak further, went missing.
The first body of the missing climbers were found after five days of intensive search operations.
However, the operation was put to a halt due to the weather.
