Body of newborn found with umbilical cord attached

IPOH - The body of a newborn baby boy, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found yesterday.

The baby's body was stuck at the Sungai Pari riverbank near Taman Falim Indah.

A resident, who discovered the body, reported the matter to the police at 5pm.

The help of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department was sought to fish the boy's body out of the river.

Ipoh Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Abdul Manap Kassim said a distress call was received at 5.09pm.

"We retrieved the body at 5.30pm," he said.

"The baby was believed to have been thrown from upstream," he added.

The body was handed over to the police, who sent it to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun mortuary for a post mortem.
